It was a great day of hockey for students of New Prospect Public School. Grade 7 and 8 players of the school’s Hockey Canada Skills Academy held the Dangler Cup tournament yesterday at the Dryden Memorial Arena.
Roughly 125 students are enrolled in the skills academy this year. The entire school was in attendance at the event.
The program takes place during the school day and students receive both on and off ice training. Schools across the district have linked hosting the hockey skills academy to students leading more active, healthy lifestyles.
The academy programs are offered in partnership between Hockey Canada, provincial ministries of education and local school boards. In 2016, more than 75 academies were underway across the country.
