The candidates looking to become the next leader of the provincial Liberal party are putting some emphasis on northern Ontario in their campaigns.
Ted Hsu is the latest to issue a policy paper for the region.
The Kingston-area MPP says it is a targeted approach that addresses some of the unique challenges and opportunities in the north.
His policy is entitled "A Northern Way."
He says it represents a strong and realistic vision for the future.
Key highlights of the policy vision include reconciliation, infrastructure, climate change adaptation, health care and housing.
"We must be resolute in fostering connectivity by improving the region’s infrastructure, protecting communities from the effects of climate change and ensuring healthcare access and housing affordability across Northern Ontario -- all while recognizing that there is no way forward without reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, respect for treaties, and developing a relationship as full partners," says Hsu.
Hsu says it was drafted following his six visits to the region.
Policies from the other four candidates in the race also released northern Ontario policies after making trips to the region during the summer.
The Liberal will name a new leader in December.
