The Dryden GM Ice Dogs were held off the score sheet last night as they were shut out 3-0 by the Red Lake Miners.
It was a defensive first period as no goals were scored. Ice Dogs had six shots and the Miners countered with eight.
The game opened up in the second period as Red Lake broke the scoreless tie at the 2:42 mark of the frame as Carter Albrecht put home his first of the season, Ty Milgate and Nic Bolin with the assists.
Nearing the end of the second period, the Miners struck again as this time it was Brady Harroun scoring putting the Miners up 2-0 at that point. Lucas Piekarczyk with the helper.
In the third period, the Ice Dogs couldn't claw their way back. The Miners sealed the deal at the 17:10 mark of the third with Nic Bolin capitalizing on the powerplay to put the Miners up 3-0, and that's how the game finished.
The Ice Dogs finished the game with 21 shots but couldn't find a way to beat Miners goalie Kiev Kenishanko who picked up his first shutout of the season.
In his first start of the season, Ice Dogs netminder Jordan Belley allowed 3 goals on 24 shots.
The next game for Ice Dogs will be Friday night (September 24, 2021) as they travel to Fort Frances to take on the Lakers. The puck drop is at 7:30 p.m CDT.
The next home game will be the following day (September 25, 2021) where the Thunder Bay North Stars are in town for the team's highly anticipated Truth and Reconciliation Night. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m CDT at the Dog Pound.
