It wasn’t the game the Dryden GM Ice Dogs expected last night (October 20, 2021) as the Fort Frances Lakers took away two points in a 4-3 loss.

The only offense of the game came off the stick of Maxime Collette who recorded his first hat-trick of the season to add to his team-leading 15 points.

The first period remained scoreless but with two seconds left in the frame, Collette was able to find the back of the net and give the Ice Dogs a 1-0 lead. Tristan Takats picked up his fourth point of the year with the assist.

The shots after 20 minutes were 12-11 for Dryden.

The game opened up in the second as Tyler Milgate scored twice in a span of nine seconds to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead with just over nine minutes into the period.

Dryden responded to tie the game at two with Collette picking up his second of the night with Mitchell Battersby adding the helper.

The Lakers would take a 3-2 lead late in the frame off the stick of Manrico Pecchia picking up his first of the season.

Fort Frances outshot the Ice Dogs 13-6 in the second period.

Collette would add his third of the game with just under 5 minutes left in the third to tie the game at three.

The Lakers Ethan Carlson-Jourdain would prevent overtime as he was able to beat Dryden netminder Jordan Belley to retake the lead 4-3.

The Ice Dogs pulled their goalie late but couldn’t add the tying goal, and the Lakers pulled off the upset.

The final shot count was 33-29 in favour of the Lakers.

Dryden’s Belley stopped 29 shots and records his fourth loss of the season.

Mason Meyer made 26 saves for his first win of the season.

With the loss, the Ice Dogs move to 4-4-1-0 and continue to sit third in the league with 9 points, only 7 points behind the first-place Thunder Bay North Stars.

Dryden will regroup and prepare to travel up to Red Lake on Friday (October 22, 2021) to take on the Miners. On Saturday (October 23, 2021) the Ice Dogs will play in Sioux Lookout against the North Stars.
