The Dryden GM Ice Dogs played a tough game against the Kam River Fighting Walleye but lost game one of the weekend series 5-2.

It was a close game going into the third period when the Fighting Walleye exploded for three goals.

Dryden's Maxime Collette continued his scoring ways as he got the Ice Dogs on the board first with his seventh goal on the season just over halfway in the first period. Assists to Tristan Takats and Max Rath.

The Fighting Walleye stormed back with two goals of their own from Ethan Lang and Jonah DesRosiers.

After 20 minutes it was 2-1 Fighting Walleye with the shots being 17-15 for the Ice Dogs.

There was no scoring in the second period, with the Ice Dogs outshooting their opponent 13-7.

The third period is where the game got interesting as Kam River's Alex Enegren, and Braeden Duchesne put them up 4-1 eight minutes into the period.

36 seconds later Dryden's Bryce Benfield got his first of the season to cut the lead to 4-2.

Kam River regained their three-goal lead late in the third period as Trenton Morriseau put one past the Ice Dogs Jordan Belley. 

With the loss, the Ice Dogs move to 3-3-1-0 on the season and sit third in the league with 7 points. 

In the win, the Fighting Walleye move to 2-1-1-0 and sit fifth in the league with 5 points. 

Dryden's Jordan Belley takes the loss in a 30 save performance.

Kam River's Eric Vanska stopped 38 of 40 shots for his first win of the season.

The two teams face off again tonight for the rubber match at the Dryden Memorial Arena. Puck drop at 7:30.
