The regular season of NorWOSSA ‘AA’ play is wrapped up and Julia Jones says she's relieved. She scored for the Dryden Eagles girls’ soccer team in a 2-1 win over Fort Frances yesterday.

“That goal was scary. I missed my first shot, but I got the second one. It was relieving. It felt good to get the win. It was hot out there, too,” she says.

Tori Kelly got the other goal for the Eagles and she has high hopes for the team this year.

“Our team is definitely strong this year. We have have awesome coaches. All of our Grade 9’s have stepped up their game and our goalie is doing awesome this year. Our team is working together well. We’re quite well individually and we’re working on working all together,” she says.

The girls weren’t able to get the win over Beaver Brae yesterday as the Broncos won 2-1.

On the other side, the Eagles boys split their games. Ryan Shapland hit the back of the net three times and Thomas Moline added two more in their win 5-3 win over the Broncos. Later, they were taken down by the Fort Frances Muskies 8-0.

The third set of games for the day saw the Broncos going scoreless under the Muskies 3-0. The Bronco girls saw a draw with Fort Frances.

NorWOSSA “AA” League play continues on May 30 with the championships being hosted by Fort Frances.

The Dryden girls and Fort Frances boys having earned a bye into the championships awaiting the winners of the semi final games next week.
