The Dryden High School Eagles football team is gearing up for their NorWOSSA season.
The Eagles begin their season tomorrow (September 17, 2021) when they visit the Fort Frances Muskies.
A statement from DHS Athletic Director Geoff Zilkalns said that just over 40 athletes will represent DHS this season and there is a good balance between veteran and newer players on both sides of the ball.
All three high schools have been preparing for the season start for a few weeks now as teams held their fall tryouts.
In a lead-up to the start of the season, Kenora played host to an exhibition series where all three teams competed in a scrimmage type format.
Zilkalns added that mistakes from both teams can be expected but the exhibition in Kenora on September 10, 2021, showed there are capable players at all three schools and the league should be competitive from start to finish.
The Beaver Brae Broncos football club will open their season on September 24, 2021, as they take on Fort Frances at home.
The semi-finals will take place on October 29, 2021, against the 2nd and 3rd place teams, the winner of that game will take on the first-place team on November 5, 2021.
When the members last played games in the Winnipeg High School Football League (WHSFL), the Muskies captured the A division crown with an exciting 65-49 win over Churchill. Dryden and Beaver Brae both fielded squads at the AA level with DHS ending their year in the semi-finals against the eventual champions from Miles MacDonell.
