Community Support Services is looking to bring a smile to isolated seniors this Christmas season with Secret Santa for Seniors.
They are looking for monetary donations, which will go towards items that the team at Community Support Services will purchase to make gift bags for isolated seniors. This is the second year for this initiative.
"This is something that the team here started last year and it was something that came to light because of COVID. Seniors were even more isolated at Christmas if they don't have family in town or transportation restrictions. So they reached out to the community who really rallied. There were even some tears when we knocked on the doors. It had a big impact on the seniors and I think this is going to become a tradition here for us," says Director of Community Support Services, Jess Rheault.
Rheault adds that the first year of Secret Santa for Seniors was an outstanding success and says it's because of the support of the community.
"They gave away about 150 gift bags, and that they had such a positive response and so many donations that they even had enough money to deliver 60 meals to seniors on Christmas Eve. I have to thank to community for their hard work and generosity" Rheault says.
The Secret Santa for Seniors program is 100 per cent dependent on the donations from the community. Donations can be made HERE. You may also put your donation in memory or honour of someone. The deadline to make a donation is Monday, December 6.
